A protozoan parasite, provisionally placed within the family Sarcocystidae, was found in the musculature of fowls in Uttar Pradesh, India. Occurrence of the parasite was associated with an illness from which 100 of 900 birds died. Affected birds often developed a duck-like gait; some recovered. Extensive granulomatous myositis and small foci of granulomatous myocarditis were found.
