Abnormalities in apple fruits, attributable to russet ring, rough skin and star crack viruses, observed in Italy

, : Abnormalities in apple fruits, attributable to russet ring, rough skin and star crack viruses, observed in Italy. Rivista di Patologia Vegetale, IV 9(1): 19-44

Observations in 2 areas of N. Italy are described. On fruits of a Golden Delicious tree russet rings, spots or patches tended to coalesce into rings or bands, with consequent cracks, distortions and reduction in fruit size, accompanied by chlorotic spots and distortion on most of the leaves. Fruit abnormalities were induced in grafted scions of Belle de Boskoop, Lord Lambourne and Red Gravenstein. Inoculation of specific indicators by double budding induced symptoms of apple latent viruses.
