After inoculation of 7-year-old Japanese black pines and 12-year-old Japanese red pines with 30,000 Bursaphelenchus lignicolus per plant, rosin exudation was markedly reduced within 14 days, transpiration was reduced in 22 to 36 days, and many trees, (19 of 23 black pine and 9 of 10 red pines) died within 40 to 90 days.
