The influence of amino acid availability on milk protein production was studied using groups of Holstein-Friesian cows fitted with abomasal cannulae. In the 1st trial (5 cows) daily infusion of 300 g casein for 6 days increased milk yield, milk protein content (P < 0.05) and yield (P < 0.01). During daily infusion of glucose (300 g), milk and protein yields were increased only slightly.
