Abomasal nematodes in cattle in Ontario

, : Abomasal nematodes in cattle in Ontario. Canadian Journal of Comparative Medicine 38(1): 18-21

Examination of 93 abomasa from cattle in Ontario, Canada, in 1970, showed 56, 20 and 17, respectively, to contain Ostertagia, Haemonchus and Trichostrongylus; 30 were negative for all nematodes. The predominant nematode was O. ostertagi; other species of the genus recovered were O. trifurcata, O. lyrata and O. circumcincta. Well developed vulval flaps were present on more than 80 and 90% of adult female Ostertagia in 28 and 22 abomasa, respectively.
