Aborption of steam-volatile fatty acids from the rumen of the cow as influenced by diet, buffers, and pH

, : Aborption of steam-volatile fatty acids from the rumen of the cow as influenced by diet, buffers, and pH. Canadian Journal of Animal Science 53(2): 279-288

Two Holstein cows 3 years old with rumen fistulae, one pregnant and later lactating, the other dry, were given to appetite lucerne during the buffer tests and a maize and soya bean meal concentrate supplemented with minerals, vitamins and chopped hay was offered during the dietary experiments. DM, digestible DM and digestible energy values were 83%, 52% and 2.64 Mcal/kg for hay and 88, 70 and 3.52 for concentrate. Concentrates were given twice and hay once daily.
