Abortions in a flock of sheep and the presence of zearalenone in the feed

, : Abortions in a flock of sheep and the presence of zearalenone in the feed. Revue de Medicine Veterinaire 126(6): 813-820

Ewes 5 to 6 months pregnant were given rations of 800 g wet maize, crushed before feeding, 200 and 250 g dried beet pulp, 200 to 250 g dried lucerne, and straw to appetite. When the maize was changed from a lot which had been treated with propionic acid before storage to a lot which had not been so treated, 17 ewes showed prostration and paralysis: 3 died, 2 had to be slaughtered and 12 aborted foetuses which were 10 to 20 days premature.
