Flue-cured tobacco grown on soil treated with the recommended rate of EDB (4 ml 41% solution/hill) had less damage from Meloidogyne javanica and gave higher yields than when treated with 4, 8 or 16 kg Mocap a.i./ha or 5 kg Furadan a.i./ha. Harvesting leaves when over-ripe reduced yields by 1.68 t/ha compared with harvesting leaves when green, but increased the value of the cured leaf/ha. In trials with fire-cured tobacco, the most promising density was 12 000 plants/ha with 12 leaves/plant.
