Abscisic acid protects bean leaves from ozone-induced phytotoxicity

, : Abscisic acid protects bean leaves from ozone-induced phytotoxicity. Canadian Journal of Botany 50(11): 2389-2391

One of each pair of primary leaves of 14-day old bean plants was painted with abscisic acid (10 mg/l) and the other with water. 4 h later plants were exposed to 0.2 or 0.4 ppm O3 for 3 h. Before exposure stomata of control leaves were open but those of abscisic acid-treated leaves were partially closed. After exposure to O3 stomata of control leaves were partially closed; those of treated leaves were closed more tightly than before exposure.
