Abscission chemicals in relation to the harvest of Valencia oranges

, : Abscission chemicals in relation to the harvest of Valencia oranges. Proceedings of the Florida State Horticultural Society 1971 84: 70-76

Valancia oranges on rough lemon rootstocks growing on sandy soils were sprayed once with cycloheximide at up to 25 p.p.m. at weekly intervals from mid-March to mid-May, and the effects were assessed on the fruit removal force 6-7 days later, the percentage of the crop removed by mechanical shaker-harvesters, and yields in the following year. The fruit removal force was reduced from 15 lb (control) to 10 lb or less, depending on the concentration and time of spraying.
