Abscission induction in the olive by cycloheximide

, : Abscission induction in the olive by cycloheximide. Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science 97(6): 781-785

Cycloheximide (CHI) at 20-30 p.p.m. caused olive fruit abscission, and also leaf abscission at higher concentrations. The water potential in the tree was a strong factor influencing CHI-induced abscission. Reducing the water loss by the prior application of antitranspirants greatly increased abscission due to CHI. Antitranspirants also stimulated ethylene production resulting from CHI application. The prior application of a wax-type antitranspirant reduced fruit injury from CHI.
