Abscission of pistachio inflorescence buds as affected by leaf area and number of nuts

, : Abscission of pistachio inflorescence buds as affected by leaf area and number of nuts. Journal of the American Society for Horticultural Science 98(6): 591-592

The average leaf area on current shoots of mature pistachio trees was measured and branches bearing 0, 10 or 20 nuts were defoliated either completely or so as to leave 27, 65 or 100% of the original leaf area. The number of flower buds on each branch was counted when the treatments were applied and subsequently at intervals until December.
