Absence of weight regulation in exercising hamsters

, : Absence of weight regulation in exercising hamsters. Physiology and Behavior 12(4): 589-597

Golden hamsters initially weighing on average over 100 g were sedentary or had access to a horizontal disc exerciser from day 6 to day 36 of the experiment which lasted 66 days. Both groups had a stock pelleted diet or the stock diet with sunflower seeds to appetite throughout. Weight gain was greater for exercising than for sedentary hamsters and significantly so during the last 7 days of exercise. After exercise ended there was a transient but pronounced spurt in weight gain.
