Absorption and assimilation of inorganic nitrogen by intact plants. 2. Physiological characteristics of absorption and assimilation of nitrate-N and ammonium-N by young rice plants

, : Absorption and assimilation of inorganic nitrogen by intact plants. 2. Physiological characteristics of absorption and assimilation of nitrate-N and ammonium-N by young rice plants. Journal of the Science of Soil and Manure, Japan 41(1): 31-36

Young rice plants removed from their endosperms were cultured in nutrient solution to compare the uptake of NO3-N and NH4-N and to study the plant distribution of different N forms. Absorbed NO3-N was mainly transported to the shoots where it was converted to NH4-N to be assimilated, whereas NH4-N was assimilated immediately into amino acids in the roots.
