Absorption and metabolism of fructose by the newborn and the infant

, : Absorption and metabolism of fructose by the newborn and the infant. Acta Biologica et Medica Germanica 29(3): 409-422

Metabolically healthy term infants from 4 to 6 days or from 4 to 8 months old were given continuously for 120, or sometimes 240, min infusions of fructose at 4 or 5 rates ranging from 0.25 to 1.5 or 2.0 g/kg h by vein. For each fasting child, from 3 to 6 per group, intravenous infusion of aqueous solutions of fructose was compared with 10 to 20% solutions, representing equal dosages, given by mouth.
