Absorption and tissue zinc content in lactating dairy cows as affected by low dietary zinc

, : Absorption and tissue zinc content in lactating dairy cows as affected by low dietary zinc. Journal of Animal Science 37(3): 848-852

A beet pulp diet with only 16.6 mg Zn/kg was given alone or with ZnO to give 39.5 mg total Zn/kg to 10 Holstein cows in their first lactation for 6 weeks. When started on the low-Zn diet, cows made several adjustments within the first week, including a 50% increase in percentage absorption of Zn, a decrease in milk Zn and a decline in excretion of Zn in faeces.
