Absorption of D-glucose and L-leucine by the isolated jejunum of lambs

, : Absorption of D-glucose and L-leucine by the isolated jejunum of lambs. Zentralblatt fur Veterinarmedizin 20A(8): 683-691

In earlier studies it was found that isolated segments of mid jejunum from sheep and deer (NAR 43, 1183) with fully developed rumen absorbed L-leucine against a gradient, but not glucose. In the study now described everted loops of mid jejunum from lambs aged 2 to 3 days and about 2 weeks were filled with and suspended in a medium containing either 5 mM glucose or the same concentration of L-leucine-14C, the outer (mucosal) medium under an atmosphere of 95% oxygen and 5% carbon dioxide.
