Absorption of colostral immunoglobulins by the newborn calf

, : Absorption of colostral immunoglobulins by the newborn calf. Revista de la Facultad de Medicina Veterinaria y Zootecnia, Universidad de San Carlos de Guatemala 3(1): 1-14

Immunoglobulin (Ig) concn. were determined electrophoretically in dam's colostrum and calf's blood of 27 cow-calf pairs. Colostrum was fed to each calf at 5 and 7.5% body wt. on the 1st and 2nd days respectively, and thereafter whole milk was fed twice daily at 5% of initial body wt. Average Ig levels in colostrum after 0, 12 and 24 h respectively were 12.93 plus or minus 5.03, 9.78 plus or minus 4.53 and 5.75 plus or minus 2.73 g/100 ml.
