Absorption of colour by honey solutions from brood comb

, : Absorption of colour by honey solutions from brood comb. Bee World 55(1): 26-28

Solutions were made of honey (17% water) and water in the ratios of 1:3, 1:1, 3:1. The solutions were mixed with light or dark broken-up comb and stored at 14 deg , 21 deg or 30 deg C for 3 days. Pfund and optical density readings showed that honey solutions absorbed colour from the dark combs. The colouring matter, being water-soluble, was taken up in larger quantities by the solutions containing more water, in amounts that were, in most cases, greater at higher temperatures.
