Absorption of gaseous pollutants by individual leaves: sulfur dioxide

, : Absorption of gaseous pollutants by individual leaves: sulfur dioxide. Phytopathology 64(5): 585

Container-grown seedlings of Acer rubrum, Betula papyrifera, Fraxinus americana, Liquidambar styraciflua, and four shrub species were used to study foliar uptake of SO2 in an open-fumigation system. Some species showed a markedly greater uptake of SO2 per unit area or per unit weight than others. There was no significant difference in the amount of SO2 removed by F. americana from air containing 1.0, 0.5 and 0.2 p.p.m.
