Absorption of insulin from perfused rabbit small intestine in vitro

, : Absorption of insulin from perfused rabbit small intestine in vitro. Diabetes 22(6): 459-465

Adult rabbits of 2 to 2.5 kg were anaesthetised, a branch of the superior mesenteric artery and the vein were cannulated and the ileal segment (15 cm) supplied by the cannulated artery was dissected. Cannulae were inserted in each end and the segment was immersed in gassed Tyrode-dextran solution, pH 7.4. Insulin at concentrations of 25, 50 and 100 units/ml Tyrode solution was introduced into the ileal lumen in a volume of 4 ml. Venous effluent was collected every 10 min for 2 h.
