Absorption of manganese by excised roots of rice and barley

, : Absorption of manganese by excised roots of rice and barley. Comptes Rendus Hebdomadaires des Seances de l' Academie des Sciences, France, D 276(19): 2669-2672

Excised roots of barley and rice took up Mn from 5mM MnCl2 solution in 2 phases. The first lasted less than 1 h and took place at low temperatures, while the 2nd was an active, non-linear phase occurring between 1 and 8 h. The amounts absorbed were similar in both species. Addition of 5mM Ca decreased the absorption of Mn and during the 2nd stage had a greater effect on rice than on barley; the inhibition was non-competitive.
