Absorption of nutrients in experimental disturbance of bile secretion

Solutions of glucose or amino acids or an emulsion of oleic acid were introduced into Thiry-Vella loops of jejunum and ileum of 11 dogs and recovered after 10 min. Bile flow in the dogs was left intact (control), completely obstructed, diverted outside through an open-ended catheter, or redirected from outside into the ileum. In both loops the permanent loss of bile reduced the absorption of glucose, amino acids and oleic acid, as compared to the control.
