After fasting overnight 19 patients after Billroth I gastrectomy, 37 after Billroth II, 9 after gastrectomy with vagotomy and 25 controls were given 0.5 ml olive oil/kg bodyweight by stomach tube. After 5 h values for esterified fatty acids in blood were significantly lower in the patients than in controls.
