Absorption of slow-release iron and effects of ascorbic acid in normal subjects and after partial gastrectomy

, : Absorption of slow-release iron and effects of ascorbic acid in normal subjects and after partial gastrectomy. British Medical Journal 4(5943): 505-508

Tablets of slow-release Fe, without or with ascorbic acid, and ferrous sulphate labelled with 59Fe and containing 50 mg elemental Fe were given to 28 patients. There was no significant difference between the absorption of ferrous sulphate and that of slow-release Fe in normal subjects, anaemic patients, anaemic and nonanaemic patients after gastrectomy or those with coeliac disease.
