Absorption of trace metals in the zinc-deficient rat

, : Absorption of trace metals in the zinc-deficient rat. American Journal of Physiology 228(4): 1020-1023

Sprague-Dawley rats 70 to 90 days old were given a Zn-deficient diet for 13 days; some had 220 mu g Zn2+ by intraperitoneal injection 24 and 48 h before tests started and then after deprivation of food for 18 h all were given 65Zn 0.65, 115mCd 35, 64Cu 44, 60Co 1, 59Fe 1, 54Mn 1 or 51Cr 0.44 mu g by mouth. In rats deprived of Zn absorption of 65Zn and 51Cr and intestinal content of 65Zn, 51Cr, 59Fe and 60Co fell.
