Absorption of vitamin A in children with ascariasis

, : Absorption of vitamin A in children with ascariasis. Journal of Tropical Medicine and Hygiene 78(5): 114-115

Absorption of labelled vitamin A was studied in 5 apparently normal children and in 6 infected with Ascaris. In normal children, intestinal absorption was almost complete whereas, in those with Ascaris, only 80% of the administered dose of vitamin A was absorbed. There was no difference between the 2 groups in urinary excretion of the label. Vitamin A absorption increased significantly in 2 children after anthelmintic treatment.
