Absorption of vitamin B12 in relation to propulsive intestinal motility in the rat

, : Absorption of vitamin B12 in relation to propulsive intestinal motility in the rat. Acta Chirurgica Scandinavica 139(4): 384-391

The propulsive motility and the uptake of vitamin B-12 by the wall of the small intestine were measured in intact male Sprague-Dawley rats and in rats subjected to jejuno-ileal transposition. There was good agreement between these functions, indicating that the uptake of vitamin B-12 is not related to any particular part of the intestine but that the site of absorption of vitamin may depend on the pattern of propulsive motility in the small intestine.
