Absorption, distribution and milk secretion of radionuclides by the dairy cow. IV. Inorganic radiomercury

, : Absorption, distribution and milk secretion of radionuclides by the dairy cow. IV. Inorganic radiomercury. Health Physics 28(6): 685-691

Four lactating cows were confined in metabolism stalls and each given a single oral dose of Hg(NO3)2. For the next 10 days, all milk, urine and faeces from the four cows were collected and the mercury-203 content measured. Peak activity appeared in the milk 42 hr after ingestion of the radionuclide. The mercury-203 was eliminated by the cow with a biological half-time in milk of 131 hr.
