Absorption, excretion, and metabolism of 1,3-bis(p-chlorobenzylideneamino)guanidine hydrochloride (Robenz robenidine hydrochloride) in the chicken

, : Absorption, excretion, and metabolism of 1,3-bis(p-chlorobenzylideneamino)guanidine hydrochloride (Robenz robenidine hydrochloride) in the chicken. Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry 23(4): 724-730

Chickens of 200 to 300 g bodyweight were given single or daily doses for a week of the coccidiostat robenidine hydrochloride, which is not related chemically to coccidiostats in use until now. They excreted 82% of the 14C label from a single dose within 24 h. Robenidine and 9 metabolites were estimated in droppings and in liver, kidney, blood, bile, muscle, skin and fat. A triazole metabolite was found in liver, fat and skin but not in droppings, so it is important to monitor edible tissue. Robenidine hydrochloride was the main residue in tissues, and the metabolites identified were less toxic, so methods detecting only robenidine may be the most suitable for estimating toxic residues.LD50 in mg/kg bodyweight for mice was of robenidine hydrochloride 390, of p-chlorobenzoic acid 1170, of the triazole metabolite under 4000 and of other metabolites under 5000.
