Acacia karroo intrusion: the effect of burning and sparing

, : Acacia karroo intrusion: the effect of burning and sparing. Proceedings of the Grassland Society of Southern Africa 7: 23-27

In a trial in 1964-71 in E. Cape Province, a mature stand of A. karroo was eradicated and seedling establishment was recorded annually in permanent transects on sweetveld paddocks which were neither grazed nor burnt or were burnt every 1, 2 or 3 years. Grazing and resting treatments were superimposed on the burning treatment. None of the treatments prevented A. karroo seedling establishment, which was directly correlated with the original tree density.
