Acarine parasites of mosquitoes. I. A critical review of all known records of mosquitoes parasitized by mites

, : Acarine parasites of mosquitoes. I. A critical review of all known records of mosquitoes parasitized by mites. Journal of Medical Entomology 12(1): 27-36

Published records of mites parasitising mosquitos are reviewed in an attempt to place in perspective knowledge on the identity of the mites, their hosts and geographical distribution. In addition, 14 new records of parasitised mosquitos from Brazil and 28 new host records from New York, Illinois and Canada are included. A total of 51 previously published records are considered invalid either because of questionable host associations or misidentification of the mites.
