Acceleration of growth with combined vitamin D-phosphate therapy of hypophosphatemic resistant rickets

, : Acceleration of growth with combined vitamin D-phosphate therapy of hypophosphatemic resistant rickets. Journal of Pediatrics 80(5): 763-774

In 2 children treated for 12 and 7.5 years for familial hypophosphataemic vitamin D-resistant rickets, growth was accelerated when a supplement of phosphate was given by mouth concurrently with vitamin D. There was no growth acceleration when phosphate or vitamin D was given alone. The first patients reached a height of 60.5 inches at 15.5 years and the second 49 inches at 9 years. In a third patient sporadic nonfamilial resistant rickets of the hypophosphataemic type was controlled by combined treatment with vitamin D and phosphate during 11 years, but there was only slight growth acceleration, possibly a result of concurrrent treatment with phenobarbitol. Her height at 16 years was 56 inches.
