Accessibility of the udder in different types of walk-through milking parlour

, : Accessibility of the udder in different types of walk-through milking parlour. Bedrijfsontwikkeling 6(4): 321-322

Problems of ease of access to the udder for the milker are discussed with regard to walk-through parlours of the tandem, herringbone and rotary types. It is suggested that tandem or rotary tandem parlours offer the best access and possibilities of surveillance. Access in herringbone parlours with straight pit edges and straight railings is much poorer but can be improved by introducing recesses in the railings, together with vertical supports to make the structure more solid.
