Accidental atmospheric pollution at Engis

, : Accidental atmospheric pollution at Engis. Annales de Gembloux 79(1): 45-54

The effects of accidental escape of SO2 from a malfunctioning ZnS-kilning plant at Engis in the Province of Liege on 5-6 Sept. 1972 was examined and the resulting air and vegetation pollution in the surrounding areas described. Arrhenatherum elatius, Avena sativa, Lolium perenne, Medicago sativa and Trifolium spp. were among the species most susceptible to SO2 injury, while Brassica spp. were moderately susceptible and Zea mays was only slightly susceptible.
