, : Accountability and innovation: challenges for agricultural economists. American Journal of Agricultural Economics 56(5): 865-877

The 1960s could have been considered a golden age for getting financial support for the type of programmes in teaching, extension and research which agricultural economists carry out. In the 1970s the situation in the USA is much harder. The paper focuses on obtaining future support for such programmes and emphasizing accountability, which it is believed will largely determine how much support is forthcoming.
