Accounting results of farms engaged in intensive cattle production

, : Accounting results of farms engaged in intensive cattle production. Cahiers de l' Institut Economique Agricole (151/RR-127): 25

This study makes an accounting analysis of the profitability of cattle production, and compares two feeding systems, one with maize silage as the basic ration, and one with dried pulp. Accounting results from six farms with more than 1,000 head of cattle were used. Analysis of the results indicates that, in the observed production conditions, fattening cattle is a relatively less profitable activity, having regard to the high investments and significant risk to the farmer involved.
