Accumulated temperatures and Ontario 'heat units', recorded at the National Institute for Research in Dairying, for maize production

, : Accumulated temperatures and Ontario 'heat units', recorded at the National Institute for Research in Dairying, for maize production. ADAS Quarterly Review (16): 131-134

Average accumulated temperatures above 10 deg C from 1 May to 31 Oct. over the period 1964-73, were calculated by 3 methods and compared with Ontario heat units for the same period. The formulae used are given for each case. According to the accumulated temperature criteria, grain maize at Shinfield would have matured to 40% moisture in 8-9 years of the 10 recorded and DM content of maize silage would have approached 24%.
