Accumulation and distribution of mineral nutrients, carbohydrate, and dry matter in soybean plants as influenced by reproductive sink size

, : Accumulation and distribution of mineral nutrients, carbohydrate, and dry matter in soybean plants as influenced by reproductive sink size. Agronomy Journal 66(4): 549-554

In plot trials in 1972, sink size of soyabean plants was controlled by the removal of pods to give an average of 0, 0.8, 1.1, 1.9, 2.4 or 2.7 pods/node. Percentage N and P contents of all plant parts and Mg content of stems and petioles decreased and K content of all plant parts and Ca content of leaf blades increased with increasing sink size. Increases in K and Ca contents appeared to be due to a decline in DM and a consequent greater concentration of K and Ca.
