Accumulation and translocation of K+, Na+ and Ca2+ supplied to different root zones of maize seedlings

, : Accumulation and translocation of K+, Na+ and Ca2+ supplied to different root zones of maize seedlings. Zeitschrift fur Pflanzenernahrung und Bodenkunde 135(1): 1-15

Nutrient solution labelled with 42K, 22Na or 45Ca was supplied to a 3-cm zone of the primary root of 9-day-old maize seedlings at various distances from the root tip. After 24 h the roots were segmented and analysed for contents of labelled cations. K was translocated both in the direction of the shoot and towards the root tip, where a high degree of accumulation took place.
