Accumulation of 14C-labeled carbohydrate before flowering

, : Accumulation of 14C-labeled carbohydrate before flowering. International Rice Research Institute Annual Report 1970: 22-25

In the field in the 1970 dry season, plants of rice IR8 were grown in a Mylar chamber and allowed to assimilate 200 mu C 14CO2 10 days before flowering. The distribution of total 14C in the plant was 1.5% in dead leaves and tillers, 22.3% in leaf blades, 41.7% in sheath plus culm and 34.5% in husk plus rachis at flowering. By maturity, 16% of the total 14C was translocated from sheath plus culm and leaf blades to the dehulled grains and 4.8% was lost by respiration.
