Accumulation of 14C-labelled carbohydrate before flowering and its subsequent redistribution and respiration in the rice plant

, : Accumulation of 14C-labelled carbohydrate before flowering and its subsequent redistribution and respiration in the rice plant. Proceedings of the Crop Science Society of Japan 41(2): 226-234

Plants of rice IR8 transplanted on 21 Jan. 1970 at 30 X 30 cm spacing and given 100 kg N + 40 kg P2O5 + 40 kg K2O/ha, were supplied with 200 mu Ci 14CO2 at 10 days before flowering and the activity of 14C determined at flowering, 7 days later and at maturity. Respiration of 14CO2 was measured in the field on 6 occasions between flowering and harvest. The loss of 14C from the carbohydrate fraction was less than the 14C respired, indicating that some respired 14CO2 was re-assimilated.
