Accumulation of dry matter and nitrogen content of Burley tobacco growing in fertilizer-induced acid soil

, : Accumulation of dry matter and nitrogen content of Burley tobacco growing in fertilizer-induced acid soil. Agronomy Journal 65(5): 762-765

In field trials at 4 sites in 1967 in which tobacco Burley 21 was given N at 7 rates from 0 to 450 kg/ha, plant DM at 40 days after transplanting decreased with increasing N rate; plants given 450 kg N/ha weighed about half those given no N. This difference disappeared in the next 28 days. Thereafter N had no significant effect except to delay flowering by up to 7 days and maturity by up to 13 days, so that plant DM at harvest increased with increasing N rate.
