Accumulation of fungi by cellulose exposed in a river

, : Accumulation of fungi by cellulose exposed in a river. Transactions of the British Mycological Society 63(3): 437-447

When sterile cellulose was placed in a river no evidence was found that cellulolytic soil fungi and leaf fungi actively colonize or break down the cellulose. The observed increase in numbers of such fungi on the cellulose with time of exposure could be attributable to passive accumulation of inactive propagules.
