Accumulation of lipid and cell changes in the heart of pigs given rapeseed oil in the diet. An ultrastructural study

, : Accumulation of lipid and cell changes in the heart of pigs given rapeseed oil in the diet. An ultrastructural study. Comptes Rendus des Seances de l' Academie des Sciences 276D(10): 1597-1600

Two groups of pigs, 76 to 80 days old, were given diets containing 13% rapeseed oil or 11.5% groundnut oil, corresponding to about 27% of digestible energy. Groups of 3 were killed after 7, 20, 45, 90 and 180 days and heart tissue sections were examined by electron microscope. The accumulation of neutral lipid in heart cells of pigs given rapeseed oil decreased after 20 days. The changes in cell structure after 45 days were not related to lipid accumulation.
