Accumulation of simple sugars in developing cotton bolls as influenced by night temperatures

, : Accumulation of simple sugars in developing cotton bolls as influenced by night temperatures. Crop Science 12(6): 752-754

Cotton plants in the field were enclosed in chambers and subjected to night temperatures of 10, 15, 20 or 25 deg C from 16 July to 9 Oct. During the 1st 15 days of boll development, the total soluble-sugar contents of bolls increased with increasing night temperatures, but between 15 and 45 days the sugar contents of bolls developing at night temperatures of 25 deg were lower than those of bolls developing at other night temperatures.
