Accumulation, distribution, and excretion of mirex-14C in animals exposed for long periods to the insecticide in the diet

, : Accumulation, distribution, and excretion of mirex-14C in animals exposed for long periods to the insecticide in the diet. Journal of Agricultural and Food Chemistry 22(4): 646-653

When mirex labelled with 14C was administered in the diets of laboratory rats, Japanese quail (Coturnix coturnix japonica) and mosquito fish (Gambusia affinis), it was retained at high level in the body and was not metabolised to any detectable extent. Maximum residue accumulation occurred in adipose tissue, and, after 16 months of continuous treatment, mirex levels in the fat of rats and male birds were about 120- and 185-fold greater than the dietary intake levels, respectively.
