Accumulative effects of manure and N on continuous corn and clay soil. 1. Growth, yield, and nutrient uptake of corn

In field trials in 1965-9, maize was grown with annual basal dressings of 120 kg P + 90 kg K/ha and all combinations of 0, 22, 44, or 66 t f.y.m. and 0, 56, 112, 168 or 224 kg N/ha. In the dry years 1965-7, N appeared detrimental to early growth, reduced plant height in the absence of f.y.m. and had little effect on fodder and grain yield. Yields increased significantly with each increment of f.y.m.
