305-day 1st-lactation records were analysed for 2890 cows. The model relationship derived in Pt. 1 for calculating the min. number of animals required to yield an accurate standard of comparison was used in 2 simulation experiments involving a population (a) constant in number and (b) excluding animals with lactations falling outside the mean plus or minus 0.68 delta.
