After habituation 3 Wurttemberg Merino wethers aged 6 months and weighing on average 29.8 kg were given during preliminary and main periods of 5 and 10 days a semisynthetic feed of glucose, starch, cellulose, 10% rye straw, 10.9% acetamide, minerals, maize oil, vitamins and other additives, including 1% polyethylene. They had 1100 g feed daily, including, by tube, 120 g acetamide, which contained 23.7% N, compared with 0.5% for the straw. There was no sign of poisoning.
